What's included

Continence support our DVA nurses provide

We start by looking for causes that can be fixed, then put a routine in place that fits your home, your mobility and your dignity.

  • Continence assessment

Bladder and bowel history, fluid and diet review, mobility and toileting access, and a documented baseline.

  • Bladder and bowel plans

Timed toileting, fluid targets, constipation management, bowel routines and pelvic floor referral where useful.

  • Catheter management

Indwelling and suprapubic catheter care, changes, flushing, bag and valve management and infection monitoring.

  • Product selection and supply advice

The right absorbent product, size and absorbency for day and night, plus guidance on DVA appliance pathways.

  • Skin and hygiene protection

Cleansing and barrier routines, pressure area checks and early treatment of moisture-related skin damage.

  • Carer education

Practical coaching for partners and family on transfers, changes, night routines and infection warning signs.

Why it matters

The right plan protects independence and confidence

Continence issues rarely stay a bathroom problem. They lead to broken sleep, urinary infections, falls on the way to the toilet at night, damaged skin, and a slow withdrawal from outings and social contact because leaving home feels too risky.

A proper nursing assessment changes that. We treat constipation, review medicines that worsen urgency, improve toilet access, set realistic fluid targets and match products to your actual needs — so nights are drier, skin stays intact and you can leave the house with confidence again.

Continence care often pairs with wound care for skin damage, and with in-home care for personal care and laundry support between nursing visits.
